“Quantum Conversations – Art of Fluorescence” is a collection of art works arising from the data from two-dimensional laser induced fluorescence (2D-LIF) experiments which directly capture the light patterns of molecules. The collection was created initially for South Australian Living Artists (SALA) Festival 2012 which is an annual state-wide arts festival attracting over 1200 exhibitors.
The collection has been featured at the Australian Institute of Physics (AIP) National Congress – “Art of Physics” 2014 and Science Alive! 2015 with the Royal Australian Chemical Institute (RACI) for the International Year of Light and National Science Week.
The striking and detailed patterns are a direct observation of the quantum nature of molecules but they are also examples of harmonious and symmetrical patterns from nature.
An exhibition held for SALA in 2016, “Quantum Conversations: Micro-Motion” explored representing in the microscopic motion of molecules in 2-dimensional images by using the quantum energy patterns they create from laser light. The exhibition was inspired by the May 2016 issue of the science-art magazine, Interalia, titled “Micro-choreography“. Some of our work was been included as part of a “call to artists and scientists for images of their work that aesthetically represent the dynamics of microscopic & molecular processes”.
See the Quantum Conversations website for more information and examples of the collection. Please contact Dr Ula Alexander for more information.
